This book is an essential read for anyone looking to own, raise, and/or breed bearded dragons. Terri does an excellent job of explaining every facet of bearded dragon care and husbandry, from the moment an egg is laid to the end of the lizard's life. Not only is it exhaustive and informative, it is easy to read and filled with helpful and sometimes even comedic anecdotes from a long-time bearded dragon breeder of high reputation (Terri Sommella). The notes on geriatric care and husbandry practices for aging lizards were touching and heartfelt. I found the sections on enclosures, illnesses, and Q&A to be particularly useful. All the information given is backed up by science and/or experience; no instruction is given without justification and possible ramifications of going with alternatives. Options are given for all facets of bearded dragon husbandry, with a "best option" from experience and the backing of the field usually highlighted. I would urge anybody looking to own a bearded dragon, and even experienced owners, to purchase this book to learn or improve upon proper husbandry for this unique and endearing lizard.
I unexpectedly adopted two baby Bearded Dragons that had nipped tails and could not be sold at a reptile convention. I had only the most basic knowledge from keeping other reptiles. This book filled in all of the blanks with detailed information. It is well researched, organized nicely and easy to understand. The tips in this book could very well save you from getting a setup that could harm your baby dragon, and the section on disease and it's prevention could save you from an expensive trip to the vet.
I gave this book a high rating because it covers every aspect of caring for this reptile. I have collected and kept a fair number of reptiles and studied herptology in college yet this book added quite a bit of information new to me. There is nothing I can find to criticize in it. I look forward to raising my own pet beardie following the clear advice in this book.
Very informational. The entire book is full of good information but it does have a definite tone of discouragement towards raising your own dragon. The BE CAREFUL or it will die tone almost scared my teenage son from wanting to raise a dragon. If you can get past that this book is amazing.
This book is great! Lots of information written by experienced knowledgeable people. My son and I both love this book lots of pictures and important/useful info on keeping your dragon happy and healthy!
Learned a lot reading this book, but some things don't seem correct. So much controversy with raising Bearded Dragon's. Some believe absolutely no cohabitation and I have seen the affects of cohabitation and it can be so bad. This book does support cohabitation.
I made a wise choice! This is a very comprehensive "manual" on bearded dragons that is up to date in 2017. I don't think the authors left anything out. Highly recommend!
Fantastic book, loads of information and great photographs of beautiful bearded dragons. This is a must have for everyone looking for valid, clear directions and instructions for bearded dragon care. A+
