I've played with piecepack sets for several years. This is the best set I have used. All the pieces are made of high quality plastic, and are fairly thick. The book is beautiful and full-color. It is really nice to have an actual book to read the rules from, rather than print-outs, which I've been using. The pieces feel nice in the hand.On other versions of piecepack, one problem with many of the laser cut wooden pieces is that they are not uniformly engraved, so the backs of the tiles are not perfect. This can allow you to remember which pieces are which just by looking at the backs. With a plastic set like this, you do not have that problem. The box is high quality thick cardboard. It is solid. I did have a minor problem with opening one side of the box, because some of the glue evidently got stuck together. I used my driver's license to break through the stickiness to get the box to open easily.

I've spent a lot of time playing games with a Piecepack and probably even more time making my own piecepacks. I have been searching for the "perfect" piecepack for years. So when I heard about this, I had to get it.The piecepack is best compared to a deck of cards. It is a set of components that you can use to play many games. Hence the name of this boxed set. If you are not familiar with the piecepack, this review is unlikely to make much sense, so go to www.piecepack.org to read up on it a little. The tiles are a nice plastic that feels great. The backs are about perfect. The tiles are indistinguishable from each other when you take them out of the box, but they do scratch easily. After one game, two of my tiles have scratches that clearly mark them. I expect that with use, they will all be scratched up enough that they cannot be picked out from the others. The faces look nice but, unfortunately, the faces don't meet spec and some piecepack games cannot easily be played using this set, including one of the best games that uses piecepack- Alien City. (in fact, at the time of this writing, it looks like Alien City is the only piecepack game that has had enough love to get a rank on BoardGameGeek.com.) Here is part of the spec: faces are marked with value at center and a small suit symbol at top-left, both in color to match suit. That ability to identify a quarter of the tile with the suit is important for Alien City and with this set, you cannot.I think that the aces and nulls are not as aesthetically appealing as the rest of the set and the suit position on the aces make it too hard to play Alien City. The coins are terrific. They are a nice size and they also have a great feel. Other than the A on the ace instead of the spiral, the coins are brilliant. I REALLY love the way they dealt with the null. I wish I had thought of that. The pawns are nice. Fairly comparable to the wooden pawns I have for my set.The dice are chunky and heavy and look wonderful… again, except for the null. Instead of leaving it blank, they put a O on it. It is pretty crazy how much ignoring the spec that says "Nulls are represented by the absence of a numeral or symbol" can change the feel of the entire set. This set also comes with a book that goes over 50 games that can be played with only the piecepack set. The book is well produced (in color) and the rules I have read were well organized and beautifully done.I think this is a beautiful set, but it still isn't perfect. It will be a hard choice on whether I use this or my homemade oneThis earns a 4/5… which pains me because this could have easily been the piecepack set I've been searching for. If the scratches become more pronounced and don't just fade into "character" then this could easily drop a star.My recommendation:I hope that the future will bring a 2nd edition that will fix the issues, but I suspect that is unlikely. If you are looking for a reasonable quality piecepack, I would recommend this set as it is still the best quality commercially available set around. You just need to understand that this is not to spec. If you design games you need to make sure you don’t use qualities of this set that are not to spec. Also, you will need to carefully read the game rules to ensure that you can play them with this set.

Had a great game listing and rule book, but did not seem to have enough pieces in it to play all the games, maybe mine was faulty? or they want you to buy two?

I didn't see a way to contact the seller....but this was a gift for my son....inexpensive.....but something he wanted....upon opening there were parts missing and bags opened inside...even though the outer packaging was intact. Again.... inexpensive...went to Books a Million and bought another. We will keep the original....not worth the time of shipping back....still troubling that this happened.

Great pieces just seamed like some the color from the tiles transferred to the back of othersome when they were frist packaged. Other wise great iteam to get for ant gamer who like variety.

Liked it a lot but I hope my friends will too on Christmas Day!

A great find. Perfect for travel.

The title for this product is inaccurate, but not for the reason you might think. First, you should know that this is a rebranded "Piecepack". If you don't know what a piecepack is, it's an open source board game system that's been around for a few years. Basically, just read the description of this product, and that's the piecepack. What's misleading about the title is not that it's rebranded, the makers aren't hiding the fact that this is a piecepack - it says it right on the box... Nor is the "Infinite" the misleading part. It really is limited only by your imagination.... but the same could accurately be said about a blank notepad, or a box of rocks, or a stick....No, the misleading about the title of this product is the last two words... "Board Game". First, there's no board. There are a series of tiles that can be used as any number of a multitude of "gameboards" in different configurations and layouts. But there is no actual board. The biggest problem with the title is the word "Game". There is not a game in this box. There are *GAMES*. The piecepack is a game *SYSTEM*. It's a Pack of Pieces that can be used to play many, many different games. Some of the best have the instructions included in the book with this product - and many, many more are available online. (Just search for "piecepack games".)This game system is best paired with another one, called Icehouse or Looney Pyramids - available here: IceDiceBut even without the pyramids, there's a ton you can do. This is a must-have for anyone who truly loves board games, and especially anyone who has ever dreamed of making their own board games.
