Really enjoyed the audiobook with one exception. I have followed Lowry since he came out with Unstoppable Offense. He’s always interesting and thought provoking. He need to cut out his long rant about the zone read offense. A couple of lines would do. Would like to see some PDFs on play design of shovel pass. If you’re a football fan and want to learn more, highly recommended. A great book in the future would be to take 10-15 plays and break them down. Another would be special teams play. Just a thought.

Started out good for about 10% of the book, now I don't know if I wanna keep reading. Author goes shallow explaining staples of football in every level like run game and standard passing game, and then stalls forever talking about the shovel pass - and his own accomplishments coming from using it. Thought about getting his defensive book, but now missing my 9 dollars.
While the author does get hung up on extolling the virtues of the shovel pass this book does serve as a decent primer for someone setting up a youth or high school (or Jr. high) football playbook. It's got a good section on how your running game dovetails with Play Action and Screen schemes with plenty of plays drawn up to show how the two work together. It could have used more sections like this. If the author had done more of a survey of various schemes and their pros and cons this book could have acted as a proto-playbook. As it is, it falls a little short on this count. It is long on advice based on experience. I wish the author had thought a little more about who his audience is as this is too deep for the casual fan and not deep enough to help a fledgling coach flesh out his playbook. It does have some good information and I did learn a good bit so that's why the 4 stars.
Received the entire PhD Football series as a gift and enjoyed every volume. Lots of great detail in the offense course with detailed, yet simple explanations for all phases of football offense. A ton of insight on football offense I was not aware of – recommend this highly for all football fans!
This book is predominantly two things: a long list of stats compiled by this coach (who cares?) and rants about his pet peeves (for example the zone read). When he does talk substance, it's superficial. Hardly "Phd" football.
